ONE FOR YOU ONE FOR ME ONE FOR YOU ONE FOR ME

Built in 1853 for socialite Elizabeth Schermerhorn Jones in Rhinebeck, New York, Wyndclyffe Castle sold this month for a mere $120,000.  Most interesting fact is the currently rundown and deserted estate gave "birth to the idiom 'Keeping up with the Joneses,'" when first built.    I guess Joneses come, and Joneses go.    news

calabasas

Happy Birthday Calabasas, California.   25 years old this year.   Home to all the giants (Kardashian, Bieber, so on and so on.)    And probably some other relevant folk too.    " 'Culture and community bring the people together. Every age group and culture is represented.   This is what the world should be like,' ” said Calabasas councilmember Karyn Foley.     story

SHUMPERT DELIVERS

NBA star Iman Shumpert helped deliver his first child, --at home!   He "helped deliver [his and fiance Teyana Taylor's] baby when Taylor suddenly found herself in labor in the bathtub. . . . Shumpert . . . tied a pair of his red headphones around the umbilical cord of his daughter . . . until an ambulance arrived five minutes later."    ~Welcome to the Parent's Club, Ma and Pa!  story

Principle in the type:  "As parents, we should remember that our lives may be the book from the family library which the children most treasure.  Are our examples worthy of emulation?  Do we live in such a way that a son or a daughter may say, ‘I want to follow my dad,’ or ‘I want to be like my mother’?  Unlike the book on the library shelf, the covers of which shield its contents, our lives cannot be closed.  Parents, we truly are an open book in the library of learning of our homes.”            Thomas S. Monson

PILOT ERROR

"Maya Donnelly awoke to what sounded like thunder in the early morning hours, but dismissed it as a typical monsoon storm and went back to sleep."   Later she found the about 26 pound package (probably from a smuggler's plane) of marijuana that had fallen from the sky and through the carport of her house.    (I hate it when that happens.)   news

Principle in the type:  "It is in the home that we form our attitudes, our deeply held beliefs. It is in the home that hope is fostered or destroyed. Our homes are to be more than sanctuaries, they should also be places ... where the storm stops at the door, where love reigns and peace dwells.”                 Thomas S. Monson

FEELING LOVE'LY

photo by Benurs - Learning and learning ...

Stumbled upon this oldie but goodie.  Were The Beetles any more adorable than in this video?  (Ladies?  Guys?)   I think I'm mostly feelin' Ringo here, even though Sir Paul is da'bomb, John's dashing, and George is every girl's sweet dream.    Ahhhhh.   I digress.
And what a song.  Love.  Love is the thing.

Principle in the type:  "We can begin to become more diligent and concerned at home by telling the people we love that we love them.  Such expressions do not need to be flowery or lengthy.  We simply should sincerely and frequently express love."            David A. Bednar

CASTLELAND

We could research into a thousand details regarding Britain's Highclere Castle, of which the present earl of Carnarvon owns and maintains.  It is old, and it is glorious.  You may know it best as the Downton Abbey location in the PBS hit.  A man's home is his castle (until the queen arrives lol lol lol).  But seriously folks, in Architectural Digest  "Lord Carnarvon sums up his feelings for Highclere Castle, with obvious affection, saying, 'it remains a joy to come back to.' "    story link
