INSIDE MATTERS

Wasn't a fan of the tummy talk, following Super Bowl.  You remember?  The Super Bowl Halftime Show?  Turned out Lady Gaga's tummy is real and even bounces when she sings and dances?  ...Paleeze!  Yes, lady bodies' jiggle and tighten and change and shrink and grow.  All of the above.  Duh.  Let's look a little deeper, shall we?  Good'on'ya Gaga for not taking any guff on this one.    story

Principle in the type:   "She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the magazines.  She was beautiful, for the way she thought.  She was beautiful, for that sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved.  She was beautiful, for her ability to make people smile even when she was sad.  No, she wasn't beautiful for something as temporary as her looks.  She was beautiful, deep down in her soul."      F. Scott Fitzgerald

GIRL POWER

photo by University of Michigan Library

International Women's Day.  I'm grateful for all the opportunities women Do have in the States.  And I'm grateful for good mothers; the hand that rocks the cradle.  Truly.   And in Italy, March 8th includes cake.  Every International Day is better with cake, no?

Principle in the type:  "Never have women had greater influence than in today’s world.  Never have the doors of opportunity opened wider for them.  This is an inviting, exciting, challenging and demanding period of time for women.  It is a time rich in rewards if we keep our balance, learn the true values of life, and wisely determine priorities.”   Bella Smith Spafford

HEARTING MTM

I get the Mary Tyler Moore love.  And The Mary Tyler Moore Show, man, had legs, inspiring many a generation of women.  The theme song will always make me happy.  (Is it melancholy?  Hope?  Girlpower appreciation?)  Thank you Mary for showing what lovely, smart, committed and capable can do.  RIP Mary Tyler Moore.      news

Principal in the type:  "We eagerly teach our children to aim high in this life.  We want to make sure that our daughters know that they have the potential to achieve and be whatever they can imagine.  We hope they will love learning, be educated, [and] talented..."    Bonnie Oscarson

VENUS ON THE MOUNTAIN TOP

Before there was Bananarama, there was Shocking Blue.  I may not be speaking your language.  No matter.  Great music, either.  Venus.  Girl Power.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON

photo by Ana y María Quintana y González

I am pretty upset about when BeyoncĂ©'s earring got ripped off her ear as she sang and danced at a New York City concert.   I mean, I know there is more important news?   But I just can't get that picture out of my head!   I can't un-see it.   Remember?   It was October scary!   "As blood started to drip down her earlobe, BeyoncĂ© wiped her ear and continued performing..."    Girl's gotta do ---   story

Principle in the type:  "I will go forward... I will smile at the rage of the tempest, and I will ride fearlessly and triumphantly across the boisterous ocean of circumstance..."        Eliza R. Snow

PRETTY HAPPY

Ladies.  It's what's inside that matters?  Where does one find happiness?  What's the secret to not obsessing with beauty?  Boy those are tough ones.  Queen B explores:

Principle in the type:  ". . . contribution of women is often underappreciated.  I wish to express gratitude for the influence of good women, identify some of the philosophies and trends that threaten women’s strength and standing, and voice a plea to women to cultivate the . . .  power within them."    D. Todd Christofferson
