PICK A NUMBER, ANY NUMBER

In the spring, "Doris Day was all set to celebrate her 93rd birthday," until a dug up birth certificate proofed her to be 2 years older than believed.  Some speculation was her age got bumped around as a young starlet.  Nonetheless, 95 it is.  And she's stickin to it.     story

Principle in the type:  "The limitations that are the natural consequence of advancing age can in fact become remarkable sources of spiritual learning and insight. . . . Physical restrictions can expand vision.  Limited stamina can clarify priorities.  Inability to do many things can direct focus to a few things of greatest importance."    David A. SWITCHEROO

It was La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz, who finally righted the goof-up wrongly announced Oscar award for Best Picture to La La Land.  On stage as some La La peers still celebrated  "Mr. Horowitz said — “There’s a mistake.  ‘Moonlight,’ you guys won best picture.”    Hey, you win some you lose some, right?  Sometimes within the same 5 minutes!    news

PENNIES FROM HEAVEN

Between the Oscars, Grammys, and Emmys, I'm reading today that "nearly $500 million--directly and indirectly--rains down on" Los Angeles when it hosts.  Really?     news

HEARTING MTM

I get the Mary Tyler Moore love.  And The Mary Tyler Moore Show, man, had legs, inspiring many a generation of women.  The theme song will always make me happy.  (Is it melancholy?  Hope?  Girlpower appreciation?)  Thank you Mary for showing what lovely, smart, committed and capable can do.  RIP Mary Tyler Moore.      news

Mind if I linger a pinch more on previous topics?  Because the news is Dolly's next up at the Hollywood Bowl, and, I, just, have such an itchin' to go!  Stay tuned.

FOOT LOOSE FANCY FREE?

Sorry if you missed the 80's.  We couldn't all be there!  Don't be jelly.  (Side note:  Have you ever played Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?)

Dolly Parton just released her 43rd studio album!  Bow down to the Queen.  I hold fast to Parton's original and still the best, I Will Always Love You, as solid gold.  And she sure is likeable, if you're a country music lover or not!    People magazine calls her "unpretentious."  That's an awesome vibe to put off.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

It seemed like really, everybody who knew Garry Marshall liked him, as so many nice things have been said.   The writer, director, producer who had a hand in a zillion TV and movie hits - including "Happy Days," "The Odd Couple," "Pretty Woman," and "The Princess Diaries," passed this month at the age of 81.   "Garry once said:   ‘I try to find scripts of stories that kinda celebrate the human condition… let’s talk about the tough world out there and the human spirit overcoming adversity.' Ghostbusters with the Ladies, is out!  Released July 15th.  Don't be scared!   (Remember, the opposite of fear is faith.)

And just for old'times'sake?  One o'me faves from the original.  "Dogs and cats, registered voters..."   It's got it all.   Enjoy.

REAL INTUITION

I suppose in honor of June 5th (the day Ferris Bueller cut class), or June 11th (the day 30 years ago this year Ferris Bueller's Day Off was released) --- but completely unaware of the significance (randomality, or kismet?) I'd changed into sweatpants and my trusty 'Save Ferris' t-shirt yesterday afternoon.   How's that for giving you the news ... or the chills?    story

SUPERHEROine

I could never sit through the new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - at the movies, at home, or in my sleep.  But that's me.   Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot told People magazine she has enjoyed playing the role of WW in the movie.  "She is all about love and compassion and truth and justice.  There is nothing not to like!"
