FAST BALL

Scary.  Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker took a line drive to the head, Sunday.  105 mph off the bat, it struck him nearly square on the skull.  He walked off the field, and is being closely monitored.  Possibly having escaped serious injury.  "It just gives you that feeling where you have a pit in your stomach," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.    news

IMPORTANT NEWS BULLETIN

The Los Angeles Dodgers are winners!  (So far.  This season.  Two games in.)   Yahoo!   Monday night, they beat the San Diego Padres 15-0, with "the most runs the Dodgers have scored on Opening Day since 1983 ..."   All is well in the universe.       news

AT THE CORNER OF VIN AND SCULLY

Maybe you don't know the Los Angeles Dodgers, like I know the Los Angeles Dodgers ... but newsflash - Vin Scully will have a street named after him.  We love him here.  He's a good guy.  What used to be Elysian Park Avenue will be the new Vin Scully Avenue, and lead right to the Dodger Stadium main entrance.  " 'A path to Dodger Stadium is a pathway to my heart,' Scully said. 'For 55 years, it has been an honor . . . I thank God for this great honor.' "  news

OVER TIME

photo by Tiocfaidh ar la 1916

Last week in the news, reminder lists were made of Final Goodbyes -- those who died in 2015.  The ever quotable Yogi Berra, 90, Hall of Fame catcher and holder of a record 10 World Series championships with the New York Yankees, passed in August.   "He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972."    news       ---Yankee in the sky, maybe with diamonds.
