GIVE ME A 'Y' GIVE ME AN 'O'

Where there are football players, there are cheerleaders!  These ladies (see link) worked hard, to make the Los Angeles Chargers squad.  In other news, you may not have to do the splits to make your own dreams come true.   (Sigh of relief emoji...)     news

ICE ICE BABY

There are harder ways to make New Year's resolutions, than swear off pizza all-nighters after a New Year's Eve binge.   Said "to purify the soul and bring good luck," the Japanese New Year ice bath tradition, is not for the week of heart or anything else.  Way to commit, traditionalist!     news

THE PROBLEM WITH JOE

We got issues in L.A., and one of them is finding a parking space at a Trader Joe's!  For that matter parking at a Trader Joe's anywhere seems a pain in the seat belt.  And Trader Joe's is Yumsville, if you didn't know.  BuzzFeed "compiled a list of '23 Hilariously Accurate Tweets About Trader Joe's Parking Lot.' "   File this under first world problems, but still.  #ineedmytraderjoes    story

Principle in the type:  "Do not give up hope. And do not give up trying. But do give up being obsessed with it. The chances are that if you forget about it and become anxiously engaged in other activities, the prospects will brighten immeasurably. …"   Gordon B. Hinckley

IN WITH THE NEW

Last Wednesday, Theresa May on invitation to govern from Queen Elizabeth II, became Britain's new prime minister.  This Brexit is a big deal, lots of change over there, David Cameron resigned, Brit's have differing view of the best next move.  Nonetheless (perhaps with that 'stiff upper lip,' those folk have always been so good at), May said "Britain would 'rise to the challenge ...' " of all there is ahead.    news

HEADS OF THE STATE OF THINGS

Speaking of superheros and presidents.  Here's a wee test for you.  Good luck!   (And happy weekend, friends.)

OZZ'RON

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne have separated.  Ozzy has moved out of the house he shared "with his wife of more than 30 years."    The public can speculate (sex, drugs, and rock n' roll?) but who knows ...        news

Principle in the type:  "The real essence of happiness in marriage lies not so much in romance as in an anxious concern for the comfort and well-being of one's companion.  Thinking of self alone and of the gratification of personal desires will build neither trust, love, nor happiness.  Only when there is unselfishness will love, with its concomitant qualities, flourish and blossom."       Gordon B. DREAM ENERGY

So, that solar plane is cool.   In the ninth leg of a round-the-world trip started in March, pilot Bertrand Piccard landed the Solar Impulse 2 near San Francisco, Saturday afternoon.   The airplane has the ability to fly both day and night, with its only 'fuel' being energy from the sun.   " 'It's an adventure we want to share with the public,' Piccard said."   This is indeed the stuff dreams are made of.   Piccard remembered being inspired by astronauts as a boy.  "He said if he and his team could do the same for others, 'that would be fantastic,' "     news

LET GO OF MY LEGO

What hurt's more?   Stepping barefoot on your Legos, or having them stolen??  Police in Portland arrested a man "who agreed to sell stolen Legos to undercover investigators."  Hey, it starts with Legos - who knows where it will end!    news

WINNING

photo by Disney / ABC Television Group

About the Oscars, I made a couple correct predictions.  (I know stuff.)
Other than that?  I'm kind of on board with the Kevin Hart "Let's not let this negative issue of diversity beat us," speech.  Go ahead.  Be whatever color you are, do your best, share your talents, help society, and keep your head up.  Everybody hang in there.  We got this.        news

Principle in the type:  "There must be purpose. We are here to accomplish something, to bless society with our talents and our learning. There can be fun, yes. But there must be recognition of the fact that life is serious, that the risks are great, but that you can overcome them if you will discipline yourselves . . ."      Gordon B Hinckley

AT THE CORNER OF VIN AND SCULLY

Maybe you don't know the Los Angeles Dodgers, like I know the Los Angeles Dodgers ... but newsflash - Vin Scully will have a street named after him.  We love him here.  He's a good guy.  What used to be Elysian Park Avenue will be the new Vin Scully Avenue, and lead right to the Dodger Stadium main entrance.  " 'A path to Dodger Stadium is a pathway to my heart,' Scully said. 'For 55 years, it has been an honor . . . I thank God for this great honor.' "  news
