I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS

On the way to a fitness class, Lisa Lobree was hit on the head when a catfish fell from the sky.  I hate it when that happens.  As for 'what the heck?'  --Friends saw "a bird flying away right after the fish fell," and likely had lost grip of it's lunch.  It's fishy, whatever the story is.     story

RESTING AND LABORS

I listened to this Ray Charles version during our fireworks display last July 4th.  It hit my sweet spot.  Enjoy.  And Happy Labor Day Weekend, you Americans you!!

COMING TO A FORK IN THE FAIRWAY

When the Ann Landers advice column suggested not washing one's golf balls in one's kitchen sink, hoopla erupted.  "We routinely wash fruits and vegetables in the kitchen sink, and they have dirt and chemicals on them. . . . Get over it!" said one reader.  Another, "everyone uses the ball washers at each tee or wets a towel and wipes them," not a big deal.  It went on and on from there.  The point is I think - make your reasoned decision, and do it!        story

Principle in the type:  "We wait and we question, we work the angles and list the pros and cons, while we move one step up and two back toward actually taking actions.  We delude ourselves that we are doing our due diligence when mostly we are just treading water in a perfectly heated pool of laziness, comfort and fear.  You can't study the map forever.  At some point it's time to start walking; there is only so much daylight."        Rob Lowe

THESPIAN TOUCHBACK

I detect a football theme this week.  So let's continue.

Eddie George, the Heisman Trophy winner in 1995 and eight seasons Tennessee Titan, has a new gig.  And it's on Broadway.  He is playing Billy Flynn in Broadway's production of Chicago.  For years George struggled to both find himself and re-invent himself post football, when the acting bug finally bit and fit.  “I really enjoy getting on stage, moving myself and telling a story through a character’s eyes and to deliver that in an honest way. A lot of the stuff I was going through in terms of anxiety and fear and depression and doubt (after football), I channeled all that in to the arts,” he said.      story

Principle in the type:  "There are signs and gifts everywhere, particularly in setbacks, but you need to keep your eyes peeled.  They come wrapped in missed opportunities, in unfulfilled promises and lost jobs.  They come born out of disappointments you never saw coming and also in those you should have.  But they bring you better things and take you to where you were meant to be. . . . Our setbacks bring us forward; we wander in the wilderness so the road can bring us home."    Rob Lowe

COMING UP ROSES

"Erika Karen Winter's 'wildest dreams' came true," as she was "crowned the 98th Rose Queen" for the 2016 Pasadena Rose Parade.    “ 'I went into complete shock, my knees buckled a little,' said Winter of hearing her name . . . "    During judging, "Winter stood out as a leader " due to her volunteering, peer counselor work, and activity at school in cheer, dance, student government, and more.          news

Principle in the type:  "Adventure is important in life.  Making memories matters.  It doesn't have to be a secret seaplane and a historic sports moment, but to have a great life you need great memories.  Grab any intriguing offer.  Say yes to a challenge and to the unknown.  Be creative in adding drama and scope to your life."                                     Rob LoweLove Life
