RUN DASH RUN

Completely valid or not, in NFL recruitment the 40-yard-dash is here to stay.  Why 40 even?  Who knows, but -- " 'It's become a universal way of doing things,' says Gil Brandt, the long-time personnel man for the Cowboys.  'It's like zip codes and postal mailings and area codes.  It's a part of life.' "   No sense holding still.    news

Principle in the type:  You can't be that kid standing at the top of the waterslide, overthinking it.  You have to go down the chute.  (And I'm from a generation where a lot of people died on waterslides, so this was an important lesson for me to learn.) ...it will never be perfect, but perfect is overrated."   Tina Fey

Looks like I picked the wrong day to go on a diet.    #nationaldoughnutday     Wish I had this donut hoarder kid here to talk me out of having one:

WILD ONES

William and Kate went on safari last week in India.  They "headed out in a jeep Wednesday morning" to among other things see "rhinos, elephants and more."   Just for a bit.  The civilized, into the wilds.    news

Principle in the type:  "You can tell someone you love them first.  You can try to speak only the truth for a whole week.  You can jump out of an airplane or spend Christmas Day all by your lonesome.  You can help people who need help and fight real bad guys.  You can dance fast or take an improv class or do one of those Ironman things….  Adventure and danger can be good for your heart and soul.”          Amy Poehler

COMING TO A FORK IN THE FAIRWAY

When the Ann Landers advice column suggested not washing one's golf balls in one's kitchen sink, hoopla erupted.  "We routinely wash fruits and vegetables in the kitchen sink, and they have dirt and chemicals on them. . . . Get over it!" said one reader.  Another, "everyone uses the ball washers at each tee or wets a towel and wipes them," not a big deal.  It went on and on from there.  The point is I think - make your reasoned decision, and do it!        story

Principle in the type:  "We wait and we question, we work the angles and list the pros and cons, while we move one step up and two back toward actually taking actions.  We delude ourselves that we are doing our due diligence when mostly we are just treading water in a perfectly heated pool of laziness, comfort and fear.  You can't study the map forever.  At some point it's time to start walking; there is only so much daylight."        Rob Lowe

MELE KALIKIMAKA

I mean, for real?!  Here's what folks are doing where there isn't any snow ... and there are giant waves ... and find themselves at the beach ... and there's a contest going on.

Principle in the type:  "I just followed the advice of one of my favorite quotes:  'Jump and the net will appear!'  Sometimes you just have to take a risk without thinking through every potential scenario of what 'could' go wrong.  I think that if you begin letting that inner voice take over with every possible doubt, you will never take the leap."      Jocelyn Delk Adams

WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM?!

The weekend's poor performing movies, "left room for holdovers to take top spots."   Reclaiming its thrown, "The Martian" pulled in "15.9 million" in sales.   news            Maybe folks relate to feeling like they are from a different world?

Principle in the type:  "Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence.  Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear.  Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different actions or adjustments will have to follow.  But any action is better than no action at all.        Norman Vincent Peale
