THESPIAN TOUCHBACK

I detect a football theme this week.  So let's continue.

Eddie George, the Heisman Trophy winner in 1995 and eight seasons Tennessee Titan, has a new gig.  And it's on Broadway.  He is playing Billy Flynn in Broadway's production of Chicago.  For years George struggled to both find himself and re-invent himself post football, when the acting bug finally bit and fit.  “I really enjoy getting on stage, moving myself and telling a story through a character’s eyes and to deliver that in an honest way. A lot of the stuff I was going through in terms of anxiety and fear and depression and doubt (after football), I channeled all that in to the arts,” he said.      story

Principle in the type:  "There are signs and gifts everywhere, particularly in setbacks, but you need to keep your eyes peeled.  They come wrapped in missed opportunities, in unfulfilled promises and lost jobs.  They come born out of disappointments you never saw coming and also in those you should have.  But they bring you better things and take you to where you were meant to be. . . . Our setbacks bring us forward; we wander in the wilderness so the road can bring us home."    Rob Lowe

THE FAM-BAM, DRINKS, AND PRAYERS

What a game!  Some say it was the Denver Bronco's defense that dictated who'd snare the victory in Superbowl 50.  Still you gotta give it to 39-year-old quarterback Peyton Manning.  Now, will he continue on?  Will he retire?   Peyton would have a few beers, and say his thank-you prayers, but first  " 'I want to kiss my wife and kids. I want to go hug my family,' "  he told journalists when asked seconds after the game what his future plans were.  Sweet, right?!      news

Principle in the type:  "So much in life is extraneous, [but] . . . the family is the real thing, the substantial thing, the eternal thing; the thing to watch over and care for and be loyal to."      Carla Carlisle

SUPER TACO BELL

Superbowl was a good time.  Commercials were meh.  And I liked the Coldplay (and friends) halftime show.
Taco Bell's commercial used Live Más (English translation-"more") as their slogan.  (Wee reminder:  in taco language however, there is nothing as awesome as the classic SNL taco town commercial parody.)    More can be better, but using discretion never hurts.

ELICIT MEANING

What better time for this cool Viktor Frankl clip, than right before the Superbowl commercials' suck the brain cells from our heads?!!    (Sure.  It's all fun and games until someone loses their brain cells  . . . )

Enjoy this, and enjoy Superbowl :)

AT THE CORNER OF VIN AND SCULLY

Maybe you don't know the Los Angeles Dodgers, like I know the Los Angeles Dodgers ... but newsflash - Vin Scully will have a street named after him.  We love him here.  He's a good guy.  What used to be Elysian Park Avenue will be the new Vin Scully Avenue, and lead right to the Dodger Stadium main entrance.  " 'A path to Dodger Stadium is a pathway to my heart,' Scully said. 'For 55 years, it has been an honor . . . I thank God for this great honor.' "  news

MIRROR IMAGE

On fatherhood, actor John Krasinski says it has changed him. "There is a mirror that is held up to me now.  You have someone watching you.  You have to lead by example.  I'm focused on becoming a better person . . . "  story

Principle in the type:  "The things you say, the tone of your voice, the anger or calm of your words—these things are noticed by your children and by others. They see and learn both the kind and the unkind things we say or do.  Nothing exposes our true selves more than how we treat one another in the home."         Joseph B. Wirthlin.

CENTRAL PERK PERRYLESS

Matthew Perry won't be joining the Friends cast reunion show to honor director James Burrows.  Perry is in the thick of a play production in London, from which he can't get away.  "Matthew may tape something for the tribute . . ." said his representative.   *Cue disappointed Friends fans . . .       news
