DIFFERENCE MAKING

Bob and Suzanne Wright were pioneering laymen in the fight against autism.  Upon a grandson's diagnoses in 2004, they found very little resources and information available.   The Wright's told themselves,  " 'We have to do something.' and so they did."  Their 10-year-old Autism Speaks nonprofit has been an invaluable addition in the fight to treat, look for cures, and help those with autism.      news link

Speaking of starry nights (or whatever we were speaking of . . . ), here's a cool video.  Make you feel small?  You're a giant in my eyes!!

This years Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals at Los Alamitos Race Course, are behind us.  100 competing dachshunds raced "in a fundraising benefit for the Seal Beach [California] Animal Care Center."   Finalists go on to the 2015 Wiener National Finals in San Diego.   Cute little buggers.      story

BODY LANGUAGE

Actress Ashley Greene is familiar with Hollywood's unrealistic body standards, most particularly for women.   "You're always going to be too skinny or too fat or too muscular, and I've gotten every single one of those."   story link        We are more than the sum of our body shape.

BEACH 10, KIDS 0

Sorry, this makes me giggle. I don't know if it's my happy childhood memories popping up, or the bad ones.  Or maybe it's just the late hour in which I am watching this.  We are in the thick of summer.  Enjoy a little Kids vs. The Beach:

A CHANGE UP

The New York brownstone made famous for making Audrey Hepburn look good in Breakfast at Tiffanys (or maybe she did 'looking good' all on her own---) just changed hands again.  Listed for $10 million in 2014, it sold in June for $7.4 with word of renovation headed it's way.   story

HARPER AND SCOUT

Presumably a lost transcript until last year, the release of Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman is upon us.   It was written before To Kill a Mockingbird, but never published.  Alissa Elliott Community Business Development Manager of Barnes & Noble in Redlands, CA said, "I expect it to be one of the bestselling books of the year, if not the best.  It is an extraordinary historic event that cannot be matched."    news link

Novak Djokovic roared and beat Roger Federer at Wimbledon, Sunday.  It is his third Wimbledon victory, and ninth Grand Slam title.    "It takes a little bit of everything: recognizing the moment, having the good intuition, following your instincts of where the serve is going to go, [and] being in the right balance," Djokovic said.

MAJOR TUTU

You've heard the news:  Misty Copeland was named principal dancer at the American ballet Theater recently.  No small feat for any dancer, let alone in her case as she overcame many challenges.  And, Copeland is the first African-American ballerina in the history of the company to achieve principal status.  "She worked hard," said her very first ballet instructor Cindy Bradley.  "You can have all the talent in the world and never achieve this. It just has to come from pure, hard work and determination and really sticking to it.”  (news

WORLD WIN

The U.S women's soccer team came out victorious in the 2015 World Cup.  Not easily done by any stretch of the imagination, yet they made it look almost easy . . . sort of . . . except for all the blood, sweat, and tears!  lol lol lol!    " 'Pure elation. GOOD LUCK, KIDDOS

Bryce Dallas Howard, star of Jurassic World, and daughter of Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, likes her parents.  She even liked them while a child and teen.  How's that for a treat?!   Recently Howard said, "My dad would always tell me that I'd love being a grown-up."   (story)      I'm enamored with that kind of optimistic talk to your kid!  It's a break from the usual, 'I hope you'll make enough money,' 'the environment is toxic,' and 'who knows if you can get into the right school.'

GARY DOES AS GARY SAYS

Actor Gary Sinise is extremely committed to bringing funding and real help to our veterans.  He visits the wounded, and lobbies for them in so many ways.    His foundation is a major supporter of, among other things, 'smart homes'  -- built specifically for the needs of wounded servicemen and women.  "Many of them have been through multiple deployments and faced traumatic stress. . . . Government is never going to do enough for them, but we can’t expect the government to take care of everybody, and I don’t want that.  We are a nation of ‘We the people.’  And we can do this.”   story link

USA USA USA

Contrary to any complaining we do and others do, there's a lot to love about the USA.  In so many ways we have it so good!   Enjoy the Fourth of July celebration . . . and for fun, the video below:

SELFIE TIMEOUT

The selfie-stick, as far as Disneyland is concerned, is a thing of the past!  They have banned them from the park.  (news)      I like a good picture as much as the next poser, but selfies are so 2014 ( . .  and 2015, and 2013, and 2012, and 2011, and----).   Maybe this will be the start of a new less 'self' trend??
