MO

Hey, it was Mozart's birthday yesterday?  You knew?  Mozart wrote hundreds and hundreds of pieces of music.  Some pretty good stuff too.  Of course geniuses had more time on their hands back then.  They weren't endlessly watching Robot Wars, or The Kardashians.    When Mozart moved away to Vienna, it was after he'd been "fired for the third time . . . decided enough was enough," and left to be a freelancer.  Sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do.    story

Principle in the type:  'That luminous part of you that exists beyond personality--your soul, if you will--is as bright and shining as any that has ever been.  Bright as Shakespeare's, bright as Gandhi's, bright as Mother Teresa's.   Clear away everything that keeps you separate from this secret, luminous place.  Believe that it exists, come to know it better, nurture it, share its fruits tirelessly."    George Saunders

BALL HOGS

It's a wrap.  The 2016 Superbowl players will be the Denver Broncos, and the Charlotte Panthers.  To add to your confidence this game will indeed happen, and there will indeed be footballs, you should know a few weeks back game officials left playoff footballs at their hotel, before the Patriots and Chiefs showdown.   Massachusetts State Police came to the rescue, and "drove the balls and gauges to Gillette Stadium and arrived about an hour before kickoff."      story

Principle in the type:  "We all have our sad tales, but don't you, want to finish strong?  Let it all go and have a life that isn't dictated by the past."    Tom Hanks, as Walt Disney to P.L. Travers

HERO'ISH

Actor Jamie Foxx saved a man from a fiery car crash, when near his Los Angeles home "a 32-year-old man . . . hit a ditch" causing his truck "to roll many times over and burst into flames."  Two witnesses of the crash, including Foxx - rushed to pull the man "to safety."    Foxx later told reporters, "I'm not a hero ... but had to do something."  story        But can we count pulling people from burning cars, at least as a good deed?

Principle in the type:  "But I believe in my capacity and in your capacity to do good, to make some contribution to the society of which we are a part, [and] to grow and develop. … I believe in the principle that I can make a difference in this world, be it ever so small.”                       Gordon B. Hinckley
