THE ROAD TO SUCCESS IS PAVED WITH SIGNED SHOES

Like, I know there is an important basketball game tonight.  LeBron and Curry will both be there.  And all that.  But let's talk about Nike dropping the ball (lol - pun - metaphor) and not keeping megastar Steph Curry in their line-up.  "Nike hit him with a pitch meeting ... hastily thrown together ... " with Curry's name spelled wrong and Kevin Durant's name still on presentation slides.   The consensus is Nike blew it and Under Armor won with Curry signed through 2024.    Anywhooo . . .      story

Principle in the type:  "Still, accomplishment is unreliable.  'Succeeding,' whatever that might mean to you, is hard, and the need to do so constantly renews itself (success is like a mountain that keeps growing ahead of you as you hike it), and there's the very real danger that 'succeeding' will take you your whole life, while the big questions go untended."    George Saunders

PAGING DR. HEIMLICH

Last week 96-year-old retired surgeon Dr. Henry Heimlich (credited with developing the namesake Heimlich maneuver), saved Patty Ris--who was choking on her food--using, you know, the same said maneuver.   Ris is a co-resident at the same Cincinnati senior living center Heimlich lives in.     news

REAL INTUITION

I suppose in honor of June 5th (the day Ferris Bueller cut class), or June 11th (the day 30 years ago this year Ferris Bueller's Day Off was released) --- but completely unaware of the significance (randomality, or kismet?) I'd changed into sweatpants and my trusty 'Save Ferris' t-shirt yesterday afternoon.   How's that for giving you the news ... or the chills?    story

ROSES AND THORNS

photo by Disney / ABC Television Group

It's high-season Bachelorette time.  Previous rose-giver Andi Dorfman, spoke to People about her television romances.  No longer engaged to Josh Murray, Dorfman is taking her love lessons with her and moving on.  "All I want now is a steady relationship. . . . Drama gives you a high, but it's not what makes you happy."

Principle in the type:  "The best way for us to show our love ... is by taking the time to prove it hour by hour and day by day.  Our expressions of love and comfort are empty if our actions don't match. . . . May we take the time to show our families, our friends, the stranger ... that our declarations of love are backed up by performance by our daily lives."     Marvin J. Ashton

calabasas

Happy Birthday Calabasas, California.   25 years old this year.   Home to all the giants (Kardashian, Bieber, so on and so on.)    And probably some other relevant folk too.    " 'Culture and community bring the people together. Every age group and culture is represented.   This is what the world should be like,' ” said Calabasas councilmember Karyn Foley.     story

Principle in the type:  "We need to remember that though we make our friends, God has made our neighbors --- everywhere.  Love should have no boundary; we should have no narrow loyalties."     Howard W. Hunter
