Built in 1853 for socialite Elizabeth Schermerhorn Jones in Rhinebeck, New York, Wyndclyffe Castle sold this month for a mere $120,000. Most interesting fact is the currently rundown and deserted estate gave "birth to the idiom 'Keeping up with the Joneses,'" when first built. I guess Joneses come, and Joneses go. news
Principle in the type: "Comparison is the thief of joy." Theodore Roosevelt
I never thought about where that phrase comes from.
ReplyDeleteYah, that was interesting stuff. I didn't know either. Dang Joneses, got us all whipped up!
